We initially started recording this track back in June of ‘23. We had the great joy of working with my ol' music school pal, Eddie Jackson. Eddie is the same producer and engineer I worked with on Tales From The Sandcastle Kingdom, Hear to Listen and Carolina Smile. Working with Eddie once again could not have been easier, absolutely joy filled!

Little by little, with a handful of sessions spread out across the Summer calendar, we managed to wrap on the tune in August. Now, after some due diligence with Post Production and the like, the track will be ready for your ears next month.

Originally written back around ‘07 or so, this is a rework of a previously released track of mine. It’s one of my favorites that I've written, and for some time, I've been wanting to get it back onto our set lists. Given the line up of my band is not what it was those years ago, and “the sound” of my music has changed a bit, I wanted to give it a new treatment…. in the end, I was immensely happy with how things came out. I learned a lot from making a change to something that I was so used to in it's original form.

Stay tuned to social media and to this news feed for updates re:the new track's release. - Mark
Mark DeRose & The Dreadnoughtstag:dreadnot-music.com,2005:Post/72756022023-09-19T10:28:28-04:002023-09-19T10:28:29-04:00GIMUNGOUS thank you to all who came out and supported the 2ND ANNUAL DFP!
I am STILL “riding the high” after the 2nd Annual Dreadnought Family Picnic (which took place this past Saturday evening on the 16th of Sept.). 'Twas a good year, here are some highlights of the year was 2022 for Mark DeRose & The Dreadnoughts. I could not ask for better friends of both me and my music than Libby and Steve Foreman! Back in February they opened the doors of their home to my music and to a house full of their friends. A HUGE highlight of my year, and up there with one of my FAVORITE shows I've ever played, was the house concert they hosted that evening.

2022 included the addition of Vinny Shickora on trumpet to our regular line up in the band. So happy to call Vinny a bandmate! He’s a great musician, as well as a great and kind person!!!

After playing music together for close to 7 years, I will be saying "farewell and a very heartfelt thank you" to my dear friend Blake Hillard! Over his tenure, Blake's played trumpet, guitar, and kit as a part of the Dreadnoughts, logged many, many a mile with me on the road and shared so, so many laughs!. He's a big ol' teddy bear behind the largeness of his presence and personality... he's full of love, and one of the most loyal friends I've come to know.

Blake's moving on so he can pursue his own creative aspirations, performing solo and with his band Red Hill Road. We've got plans to continue to perform together, in a new way - sharing gigs with our bands! IN FACT, the first one will be on Friday Feb. 3 at Tellus 360. STAY TUNED FOR MORE DETAILS.

Here's to you Blake - looking forward to keeping in touch, despite not seeing one another quite as much, but forging new memories in new ways!!

This past fall we were invited by Lebanon Valley College's Audio Engineering class to record a track with them, as a part of their Senior project. We chose to do a recording of our take on Steve Miller's "Jet Airliner". We've been playing this tune at our live shows for some time now, and it feels like a "favorite" amongst our fans. It's a joy to have a recording of this song, and was a joy to work with LVC.

This link - Mark DeRose & The Dreadnought's "Jet Airliner" - will take you to a sneak peak of the track on YouTube, due out for official release some time early in '23.
Mark DeRose & The Dreadnoughtstag:dreadnot-music.com,2005:Post/71218912022-12-12T20:18:01-05:002023-12-10T13:09:53-05:00Heading into the studio soon!
Our gig schedule slowed down in it's usual, annual way as of late October. Since then, I've (Mark) been spending a lot of time working on writing, producing and demoing new tunes. On the list to be recorded some time in the early new year are a few older songs I've had hanging around, two older tunes I'm re-recording, a cover tune, and some brand spankin' new tunes.
As much as I LOVE performing, I equally love spending time in my home studio writing, recording and prepping to get ready to head into the BIG studio to lay down the tunes for real. It's a quieter, and not as busy time of year... with it comes the peace I find from digging inside the craft of songwriting that I so love. More updates to come.
Mark DeRose & The Dreadnoughtstag:dreadnot-music.com,2005:Post/70440002022-08-23T09:22:47-04:002022-08-23T09:22:47-04:00PRE ORDER/RESERVE your Dreadnought Family Picnic Tee!

This is an outdoor venue with a limited amount of picnic tables for diners/guests. This show has a pretty good "buzz" about it re:potential attendance numbers, so lawn chairs, blankets, etc. are strongly encouraged should we run out of seating (picnic tables) provided by the venue. There is additional seating available in the lawn in the surrounding picnic table area.

Suggested donation of $5. This a "dry event"/no alcohol available for sale as Dover (PA) is a dry township.
Mark DeRose & The Dreadnoughtstag:dreadnot-music.com,2005:Post/69564682022-04-25T14:04:28-04:002022-04-25T14:04:28-04:00"Giggin' Season" starting to kick in!
Such a great gig last weekend (April 15th) at the new Lititz Shirt Factory!
We found out earlier this week, "In Search of the Good Days" our latest album release from August of 2021, has been nominated for Album of the Year by the Central Pennsylvania Musician's Hall of Fame. (www.cmphof.com) It's quite the honor to be recognized for the work we've released in this year, and further more, it's lovely when your peers do the recognizing!

We've known the "fine folks" over at this magazine for some years and were flattered when they decided to include us in this latest issue of their long running quarterly magazine, now in it's 58th run.

Within the article, is a highlight for us, in the form of a review of our most recent release, "In Search of the Good Days". The review, written by the very friendly Claire Hannum reads, "Featuring his vibrant band the Dreadnoughts and an uplifting blend of soulful, rootsy jams with a twinge of vintage flair, it offers the exact kind of music we all could use a little more of right now''.

In time, folks will be able to read the article that will be posted on FLLmag.com.
Thanks to the many who came out this past Sunday to help us celebrate the release of our brand new album - "In Search of the Good Days''! Despite what the forecast had to say, it would seem Mother Nature just could not leave us alone, and she decided to dump some rain on us about halfway through the show. Unfortunately, for the sake of protecting our gear, we never did get back on stage to finish things out!

However, ALL IN ALL, it would seem not even the rain dampened the spirit of the celebration!

The power of music is an awesome thing. I've made many friends through performing music, and to look around the venue on Sunday and see so

many of these same faces that I would say are a part of my "musical family", it was both heartwarming and humbling! Music has given me so much... I am grateful.

In FULL DISCLOSURE, our fans are our best weapon to grow this thing we are working on. The power of "word of mouth" is alive and well in the world of grass roots music!
August 13th has finally arrived, and our brand new album is available for your ears to have a listen. Stream on line on all major streaming platforms (Spotify, Apple Music, etc.), pick up a cd copy at a show, listen to sneak peaks on our music page here within this site.... whatever you do, HOPEFULLY you will take a minute (or approx 40 minutes) to listen to our new tracks.

SO MANY THANK YOUS and tons of gratitude to be given to every heart and hand who had a part in putting this album together. My mates in the Dreadnoughts - you're time and effort given to this, without hesitation or immediate reward, does not go overlooked. Our families who put up with the many hours away from home. Michael Waskevich, of MDW Productions for his time and talents to help us make this album...

ALL IN ALL, it was a great experience, and I'd be happy to go RIGHT BACK INTO THE STUDIO to start another project tomorrow! Hopefully before too, too long, we will have more music to share. PLEASE, IF you enjoy what you hear, share it! Every new album, has a bit of potential energy to it to open new doors for artists/bands. THE GREATEST energy is that which lies in the power of "word of mouth"!

Gratefully - Mark
Mark DeRose & The Dreadnoughtstag:dreadnot-music.com,2005:Post/66960662021-07-23T07:43:07-04:002021-07-23T07:43:08-04:00NEW CDS have arrived!!!

We're very excited to announce that the new CDS have arrived on Mark's doorstep! This is a monumental day as it marks the culmination of many hours of work, effort and love poured into and packaged into one tiny cardboard sleeve, slimmer than a saltine cracker! Not to mention, it's a sigh of relief as there are PLENTY of stories of artists/bands not actually having the new album on hand by the actual release date... so that nightmare can go away.

Looking forward to sharing the NEW MUSIC with you on Friday August 13th!
Mark DeRose & The Dreadnoughtstag:dreadnot-music.com,2005:Post/66873632021-07-14T06:15:54-04:002021-08-17T05:09:55-04:00ALBUM RELEASE PARTY Co Sponsor - Winding Path Brewing!

We are excited to announce that Winding Path Brewing has agreed to be a part of our ALBUM RELEASE PARTY! We are throwing a little pre show party for the "band family", to say thank you for ALL of the support and love they give us. Winding Path has been kind enough to donate some "TASTY GOODS" to this cause for our guests enjoyment. They will also be in attendance during the show, providing concert goers with free samples of their brew, free gear and more!

We are especially excited to be partnering with Winding Path on this event for a handful of reasons. One, they are from my hometown (Mark). In fact, their home brewing facility (they like to refer to as "the farm") is right around the corner from the high school I went to. Two, they are one of only a few breweries to feature a female head brewer - and my tastebuds say she's quite good at her craft! And finally, they are GOOD and KIND people who are growing what they do, at an awesome rate.
Mark DeRose & The Dreadnoughtstag:dreadnot-music.com,2005:Post/66785432021-07-04T07:26:40-04:002021-08-07T14:57:55-04:00HAPPY B'DAY 'MERICA!
Happy 4th of July!! Today and this time of year, are right up there next to the "winter holiday season", as a favorite for me, as it means gathering together with friends and family to celebrate - soak up some sunshine, do some bbq'n, and simply enjoy life.

For obvious reasons, given the year we've all been through, it means a bit more this year. I'm taking time to count my good fortunes in greater quantities this holiday weekend, and I'm so thankful for the love and support of those around me.

Here's to better days ahead for the great land we all call home... I'm a firm believer in the power of love, gonna do my best to "spread it all around and watch it grow"!!! I'm hopeful we all can do the same. Happy 4th of July and happy b'day 'merica!
Mark DeRose & The Dreadnoughtstag:dreadnot-music.com,2005:Post/66762772021-07-01T14:39:50-04:002021-08-18T04:44:13-04:00SO...What is a Dreadnought?

Literally, the word Dreadnought means “fear nothing”. I’ve read - and LOVE - that it can be used to describe a person with an “undeniable, unsinkable sunny disposition”.

I love my brothers in our band, and I thought it an appropriate name for the collection of mates in my band. Additionally, the “positive vibe” of the name, fits the music I write and the music we make together.

A little bit more on the word DREADNOUGHT and it's origin!

Initially, a dreadnought was a warm garment or thick cloth, used to make heavy coats for sailors in the 18th century! Later on, early in the 20th century, the dreadnought came to be a type of battleship developed by the British Navy. Vast in size and power, these ships were believed to be “unsinkable” and “the strongest of their kind”!

COINCIDENTALLY, and more to hitting home for me, one of the biggest in its class, it’s a style of acoustic guitar (developed by PA’s own CF Martin & Co.). It’s my personal favorite, and is the style of the first guitar I ever owned. I write and create the large majority of my original tunes on a dreadnought guitar. Much like my mates in our band, the dreadnought guitar has become one of my “best friends”.

In case you ever wondered where the name comes from, there you have it!
Mark DeRose & The Dreadnoughtstag:dreadnot-music.com,2005:Post/66701822021-06-25T10:54:56-04:002021-06-25T10:54:56-04:00SHOWS THIS WEEKEND (6.25&26) - 2 shows w/the TRIO!

It's storming like crazy here in Lancaster... thus we will be staying in without a backup location for the band to retreat to! DO join us tomorrow night at the Shoppes of Belmont Summer Music Series. We will perform from 6 to 10P on their stage (located in the center of their plaza). Bring along blankets and lawn chairs as there's limited built in seating (benches).

As many of you know, I (Mark) do 99% of all of the artwork that adorns our albums, tees, stickers, etc. This image is a screen shot of the artwork that's in progress to be a part of our upcoming album - "In Search of the Good Days". It's been a wrestling match to get things this far, admittedly.

But, I'm feeling pretty good about things as I look at 'em here this a.m. (That could be because I'm lacking in sleep and I've chosen to devote this round of insomnia to working on this effort?) I find the creative process one that requires being able to be a give in to the pitfalls and rabbit holes that find you, knowing that you'll climb out of it OR find the other end of things, if patient!

Maybe it's the really good artists/creative types who can get through it quicker, OR find ways around it quicker OR they're sooo good, they can avoid 'em entirely? I'd love to know anyone's point of view on it... as I'm looking to learn and workshop on the topic.

Do stay tuned as there will be a complimentary, daytime version of this image! Both will be a part of promotional materials, album artwork and the like!
Mark DeRose & The Dreadnoughtstag:dreadnot-music.com,2005:Post/65822362021-03-23T07:27:47-04:002021-08-06T15:18:11-04:00Some new artwork, a new sticker in the works!
While the album wraps up, I'm keeping busy doing some behind the scenes work to revamp some marketing efforts. One such effort, is an overall revamp of a Mark DeRose Music and Art logo. Along with the help of a trusty old sidekick by the name of Sheryl "Shirley" Webster - who provides me with much needed marketing input and consultation - the above image is what we have come up with thus far! IF ALL STANDS, we will look to use this to print some new stickers, website update in the form of a landing page, and more.

Clean those back windshields and trapper keepers, as I'm hopeful we can do some sticker bombing together, soon!
Mark DeRose & The Dreadnoughtstag:dreadnot-music.com,2005:Post/65474592021-02-12T19:00:00-05:002021-07-07T05:53:03-04:00Album Artwork UPDATE!

Progress is being made with my work to put together the artwork for our band’s forthcoming album! Working on a day and night versions of this “flying ship” image - to be used in various promotional efforts. (The above being the "Day Version") I had this image on hand for some years. At that point, it was simply the flying ship, in much less detail. I wasn't sure what to do with it for some time... then the light bulb came on when I started working on the artwork for this album.

My hope is that these two images (night time image on the left, day on the right) will end up in some form of "full color" and will fade in and out one another in a short video. The audio bed for this video will be sneak peaks of new tracks (from our forthcoming album).

PLEASE NOTE, the title listed is a working title... kicking around one or two other options.

More coming soon.....thanks for stopping by, Mark.
Mark DeRose & The Dreadnoughts
